Let's talk wedding day beauty, shall we?

So much goes into planning your wedding. The venue, the dress, the wedding party, the guests, the food…the list goes on and on! But one thing you don’t want to leave to chance, is your bridal beauty. Below are a few tips to help you look and feel your best on what will likely be one of the most, if not the most photographed day of your life.

Tip 1: Tanning

If you’re going to tan before the wedding, be sure to avoid tan lines – especially if you have a strapless dress. If you’re getting married in the summer, make sure that in the two to three months leading up to your wedding you’re tanning evenly to avoid tan lines.

Tip 2: Hair + Makeup

Let’s just get this out of the way. Your wedding day is not the day to try a new look. If you are curious about a new color, cut or style, try it out well in advance, first. For the big day, let the professionals handle your look. Hire a professional makeup artist and hair stylist. Someone reputable and hopefully someone you can get via referral. Trust me, this is money you will not regret spending.

Tip 3: Accessorize It!

Try on your dress with different accessories to see how they will compliment each other. When you plan ahead, you already know what it looks like with the dress before the day begins so you aren’t rushing, or caught in a moment of indecision on the day of your wedding. Not only will this save you unnecessary stress, but it will save you time as well. This one small step can help you to enjoy your day that much more.

Tip 4: Shoes

Walk around in your wedding shoes prior to the big day to get them worn in. If they are brand new, take some sandpaper to the bottoms to scuff them up a bit so you don’t slip down the aisle or on the dance floor. Or, you can take them to a cobbler and have them add rubber bottoms to the soles. If your wedding is outdoors and you’ll be walking on grass, you’ll want to get some high heel protector caps so you don’t sink in the grass.

Another quick note: Be conscious of walking on uneven grass on the day. You don’t want to faceplant in your pretty white dress!

Tip 5: Stay Hydrated!

The best way for you to look your best is to stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water in the days leading up to your wedding, and on the day of your wedding.

Also, a starving bride, is likely not a happy bride. Make sure you’re eating a few small meals throughout the day on your wedding day so you don’t pass out or get a headache. And if you’re going to drink alcohol, don’t get drunk before photos – especially if it’s red wine that can stain everything (including your mouth). Save it for after all the big events at your reception.
